Dardanup Butchering Company

More than 29 years ago we partnered with Dardanup Butchering Company, WA’s largest food service company, to reposition and rebuild the brand from the ground up. From strategy and identity, through to photography, website, campaigns, fleet, and retail, every brand touchpoint has been shaped for ongoing commercial success.

We continue to evolve the brand by delivering campaigns, signage and content to keep Dardanup top of mind amongst consumers.

Taste Dardanup

Dardanup is Lateral’s foundation client, with us from the very beginning. They have been an enabler for us to create some of Australia’s best creative food work, winning awards and recognition both here and abroad. Importantly, the relationship has also delivered amazing and sustainable growth for the private enterprise, allowing our brand marketing strategy to perfectly align with commercial objectives.

Taking Sides

Most recently, we created ‘Taking Sides’ for Dardanup. A fun, slightly cheeky TV spot that plays with expectations. Set in a professional kitchen, a chef meticulously rearranges a plated meal, only for the reveal to land on a single hero: the steak. The campaign ran across TV and BVOD nationally, cutting through with a simple, confident message about quality.

Behind the scenes

Post ideation, ‘Taking Sides’ began as an in-house, hand-illustrated storyboard. We then chose a director, production team and cast, before flying over to film the spot in a trendy Melbourne bar/restaurant. Along with a supremely talented cinematographer, lighting and sound team, colour grading was a critical factor in ensuring that the food was the hero. The spot becomes the latest in a long line of humour-led TV campaigns.

The Ultimate Test

This spot followed on the heels of our TVC, ‘Rump’, a Finalist at the London’s FAB International Creative Excellence Awards. It may sound familiar to you, being voiced by the ‘sound of summer’, Mr Jim Maxwell.
